Opera of the month: Romeo & Juliet
If Charles Gounod's Romeo and Juliet, premiered during the 1867 World's Fair, was an instant hit with the public, it was undoubtedly because it most finely translated the life drive of the famous lovers. Entitled "Bloodline Maintenance", the album is both political and personally revealing. A cross between hip-hop, blues and jazz, the album is packed with sonic nuggets such as "Where Did We Go Wrong", "Need To Know Basis" and "Honey, Honey".
