Opera of the month: Médée at the Opéra Garnier

‍Médée, the sorceress betrayed by her husband Jason, is perhaps mythology's most unfathomable character. In 1693, Marc-Antoine Charpentier premiered his only lyric tragedy, Médée, at the Académie royale de Musique, the forerunner of the Opéra national de Paris. Three centuries after its creation, this Baroque work of great orchestral richness returns for the first time to the stage of the Opéra national de Paris, under the musical direction of William Christie.‍

Concert of the month: Orchestre National de France

‍PhilippeSarde is in the spotlight at this Orchestre National de France concert. You'll hear works he composed for films such as Les Choses de la vie, César et Rosalie, Fort Sagine, Tess, coup de torchon, flic ou voyou, La Grande Bouffe.‍

Exhibition of the month: Henry Cros

‍HenryCros (1840- 1907), sculptor and draughtsman, is a little-known figure in nineteenth-century sculpture. Brother of the poet Charles Cros (1842- 18888) and supported by Rodinet Bourdelle, he renewed the translation of encaustic painting and was passionate about polychromy.‍

The exhibition is at MAD, 107 rue de Rivoli, 75001 Paris.
